An additional 34 Columbus artists showed their work alongside art from Cuban artists as part of a collateral Biennial exhibition, ConnectArt, in Matanzas. From October 1 to November 15, 2019, artwork from the 39 central Ohio artists who exhibited in Cuba, work from additional Columbus artists, and Cuban artists work will be on display at art institutions, galleries, and public venues throughout Columbus as part of Cuba in Columbus.

ABOUT THE SHOWS
Cuba in Columbus in Columbus
Date: October 1 - November 15, 2019
Locations: art institutions, galleries and public venues across Columbus

Cuba in Columbus is the result of an organizational collaboration between visionary Cuban curator and artist Lolo Osmany Betancourt and Columbus curator Michael Reese. Reese and Ruthie Newcomer accompanied several groups of artists on trips to Cuba, where the artists fostered connections with Cuban artists. “It has been amazing to see the energy and the connections that have formed between the artists,” Reese says.

Five Columbus artists were selected to show works in the 13th Havana Biennial in Matanzas, Cuba, the country’s largest visual arts event, and an additional 34 Central Ohio artists were invited to show pieces alongside work from Cuban artists in ConnectArt, a Biennial collateral exhibit.

For Cuba in Columbus, work from all 39 artists, additional Columbus artists, and Cuban artists will be exhibited in the Columbus Museum of Art, Greater Columbus Arts Council’s office, Riffe Center, COSI, Brandt-Roberts Galleries, Hammond Harkins Galleries, Lindsay Gallery, (not) Sheep Gallery, Sharon Weiss Gallery, Sherrie Gallerie, other galleries, and art and business venues.
